This is my first time in California, and I can’t wait for the #ADHD2024 Conference to start later today. Jointly sponsored by ACO, CHADD and ADDA, this is the largest ADHD conference in the world.
I’m looking forward to a jam-packed 3 days filled with new learning, insights and friends. As always, this conference has a fantastic line up of speakers and authors. I’m hoping to pick up Nikki Kinzer‘s book, Unapologetically ADHD: A Step-By-Step Framework for Everyday Planning on Your Terms, as well as Shell Mendelson‘s A Course for ADHD Adults and Teens: Unlock Your Career Path. I have Tamara Rosier‘s excellent new book, You me and Our ADHD Family: Practical Steps to Cultivate Healthy Relationships, and I’m hoping she’ll sign it for me.
There are some intriguing new Innovative Programs, and a number intersectional programs where communities can do a deeper dive on how ADHD may show up for them, and learn, share and ideate on tactics to successfully manage it.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with Kathy Edwards, Jill Linkoff and Cindy Goldrich for the past few months on the volunteer Networking Committee, and I’m very much looking forward to the activities we’ve planned for the conference attendees, from the ADHD 2024 Gives Back event where hundreds of attendees will show their support for families staying at Orange County’s Ronald McDonald House, to a special meet-up for First Time conference attendees to help them easily navigate what can be an overwhelming new experience. For clinicians and coaches, we have planned a unique event we’ve called Not Your Average Networking Event that is anything but the stilted exchange of business cards characteristic of traditional networking activities. I can’t share more than that…you’ll need to be here.
My colleague Stephanie Monks and I will be leading an interactive workshop that explores how we bring the principles of improvisational theatre into our coaching practices and the startling neuroscience insights that speak to how improv can help reduce anxiety, quiet the inner critical, increase focus and build foundational inter- and intra- personal skills.
The day is just beginning here in California. So. Excited.
